Plymouth is located in Washington County (of which it is the county seat) northeast of Greenville, between Tarboro and Columbia along US Hwy 64 on the banks of the Roanoke River near Williamston, Batchelor Bay, the Cashie River, and Pettigrew State Park. Plymouth is older than Washington County, the town was established in 1787 and became the first incorporated city in 1807.
