Morton County

Morton county is located in southwestern North Dakota and uses Mandan as its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 24,568, an increase of 868 over the 1990 census.

Major features of the county include the Missouri River and Lake Sakakawea which form the eastern county line, Sweet Briar Lake and Crown Butte Lake to the north and the Heart River.

Outdoor lovers can take advantage of the facilities at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park near Mandan. In addition, history aficionados will want to check out the Ft. Rice Historic Site in the southeast corner of the county.
