Sargent county is located in southeastern North Dakota and uses
Forman as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 4,288, a decrease of 261 over the 1990 census.
The headwaters of the Wild Rice River rise near Brampton in southwest Sargent county flowing east to empty into Lake Tewaukon. It exits the lake to head north to a rendezvous with the Red River of the North just south of Fargo. The river and lake form the basis for Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge.
