Slope county is located in southwestern North Dakota amid the Badlands and the
Little Missouri National Grassland.
Amidon serves as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 887, a decrease of 20 over the 1990 census.
Physical features of note include the Little Missouri River and White Butte, the highest point in the state at 3,500 feet.
