The museum, located three miles east of
Chadron on Highway 20, traces the history of fur trading in North America from 1500 through 1900. The Museum of the Fur Trade located at the site of an original trading post. It was established by the American Fur Company in 1837 and operated until 1876. Extensive displays include frontier weapons, trade goods, furs, and American Indian items showing the utilization of trade goods. The 1837 Bordeaux Trading Post, reconstructed on its original site, is completely outfitted.
