Wausa is located in
Knox County northwest of
Wayne, between
Osmond and
Bloomfield, off of Hwy 121.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 541, a decrease of 57 since 1990.
Wausa, platted in 1890 and incorporated in 1891, was never a metropolis. Its population at the turn of the century, just over 400, peaked at 754 in 1930.
Wausa was founded by the Swedes a century ago. The heritage endures with Swedish events, houses and main street building that the Nebraska Historic Buildings Survey identifies as true Swedish architecture.
Today, many people enjoy combining the Wausa lifestyle with easy commuting to larger job centers.
