Basking Ridge

Basking Ridge is located in Somerset County, in the Skylands Region, and is just west of Newark along Interstate 287 near the Morristown National Historic Park. Basking Ridge is part of the Middlesex-Somerset-Hunterdon, New Jersey metro area.

Basking Ridge was named by local settlers who had seen wild animals come up from the lowlands to bask in the sun. In 1776, Gen. Charles Lee, second in command to George Washington in the Continental Army", was taken prisoner by the British here.
