Located just 12 miles north of
Carlsbad and 17 miles south of
Artesia. Facilities include picnic areas and campsites with shelters, RV electric hookups, a dump station, a modern comfort station and a visitor center. Boat ramps provide access tolake for boaters, fishing enthusiasts and water skiers. The desert's mild climate and the cooling lake waters attract visitors year-round to the newest of New Mexico's state park. The park offers special events and programs from spring through fall. Two of the most popular are the "Go Fly A Kite" rally held in March and the "Kids Fishing Clinic" held in May. Saturday night campground programs are held throughout the summer. While in the

Living Desert Zoo & Gardens. Dedicated to the interpretation of the Chihuahuan Desert life zone, the park is an indoor/outdoor living museum of New Mexico's plants and animals. More than 60 animals, make the Living Desert their home. Also visit the park's cacti greenhouse.
