Located just 12 miles north of Carlsbad and 17 miles south of Artesia. Facilities include picnic areas and campsites with shelters, RV electric hookups, a dump station, a modern comfort station and a visitor center. Boat ramps provide access tolake for boaters, fishing enthusiasts and water skiers. The desert's mild climate and the cooling lake waters attract visitors year-round to the newest of New Mexico's state park. The park offers special events and programs from spring through fall. Two of the most popular are the "Go Fly A Kite" rally held in March and the "Kids Fishing Clinic" held in May. Saturday night campground programs are held throughout the summer. While in the Carlsbad area, why not make tracks to Living Desert Zoo & Gardens. Dedicated to the interpretation of the Chihuahuan Desert life zone, the park is an indoor/outdoor living museum of New Mexico's plants and animals. More than 60 animals, make the Living Desert their home. Also visit the park's cacti greenhouse.
