First Church of Christ was built in 1938. Noted African-American architect Paul Revere Williams designed the Neoclassical style church. Williams was the recipient of the NAACP's highest award, the Springarn Medal. His other designs include the Los Angeles International Airport and the Palm Springs Tennis Club.
