Walker Lake constitutes one of the last remnants of an inland sea which covered much of western Nevada about 10,000 years ago. Park recreation includes fishing, boating, swimming and picnicking. Facilities available include shade ramadas, tables and grills along a sand beach as well as a boat launch. Walker Lake State Recreation Area is located 11 miles north of Hawthorne on Hwy 95 and is open year round.
