The gallery has a worldwide reputation as a center of modern art. Its collection is rich in post-war American and European art: abstract expressionism, pop art, and art of the 1970s by artists such as Gorky, Pollock, Warhol, and Johns. The permanent collection offers a panorama of art through the centuries, from a Mesopotamian figure dated 3,000 B.C. and Renaissance painting and sculpture, to American and European art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Includes works by de Kooning, Matisse, Picasso and Pollock.
