The gallery has a worldwide reputation as a center of modern art. The permanent collection offers a panorama of art through the centuries, from a Mesopotamian figure dated 3,000 B.C. and Renaissance painting and sculpture, to American and European art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
