Newburgh is located in
Orange County 21 miles south of
Poughkeepsie between Beacon and Middletown along Interstate 87 on the banks of the
Hudson River near Storm King State Park in the
Southern Region of the state. Served as George Washington's headquarters, 1782-1783. It was here that he rejected a proposal that he serve as "king" of a new American monarchy.
