Located on Belmonte Park North, the institute is in a stately building of Italian Renaissance villa architecture. The Experiencenter, a participatory family center, presents thematic shows. Of special interest are an extensive collection of contemporary American art, 17th-19th century European art and Asian art. The museum comprises a number of galleries featuring a variety of art including an African Art Gallery, Pre-Columbian Art Gallery, Colonial and Early Republic Art Gallery, Native American Art Gallery, Medieval/Renaissance Art Gallery and the Bradford Tilson Gallery of Early 20th Century American Realism.
