Huber Heights is located in southwestern Ohio in
Montgomery County just north of
Dayton. It joins
Miami County on the north and
Clark County and
Greene County on the east with Greene County also being a part of the southern border. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 36,997, a decrease of 1,699 since 1990.
The city was originally founded in 1810 as "Wayne Township" and was named in honor of Gen. "Mad" Anthony Wayne, one of the most highly decorated military officers of the Revolutionary War and later in the "Northwest Territory." It took its city charter in 1983 and changed its name to Huber Heights in honor of Charles H. Huber who started the first privately owned utility company in Ohio as well as a residential construction company, eventually building more than 10,000 homes and over 2,000 apartment units.
