Niles is located in northeastern Ohio in southern Trumbull County about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland and just southeast of Warren on the banks of the Mahoning River.

The city is the birthplace of William McKinley (1843), the 25th President of the United States (see National McKinley Birthplace Memorial).
