Monroe County

Monroe county is located in southeastern Ohio on the banks of the Ohio River with Woodsfield serving as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 15,454, a decrease of 43 over the 1990 census.

Most of the southern half of the county is an outdoor lovers delight. The area is within the [waynenf] including the Little Muskingum River which meanders from north to south through the vicinity. In addition, Monroe Lake and Sunfish Creek and State Forest recreation area occupy the northern tiers of the county.
