Durant is located in southern Oklahoma in
Bryan County (of which it is the county seat) at the intersection of U.S. Highways 70 and 69/75. The city is home to the Choctaw National Tribal Headquarters and
Southeastern Oklahoma State University while 89,000-acre
Lake Texoma and
Lake Texoma Resort Park offer nearby recreation.
For those interested in "World's Records", Durant offers the "Largest Peanut"--a 36"-long specimen displayed in the city hall.
Museum buffs will want to take in the Three Valley Museum, which once was the town's elegant Opera House built circa 1900, and Fairchilds Gallery, displaying First Nation artifacts. In addition, tours of Fort Washita, northwest of town and east of Madill, are available.
