Miami Oklahoma |
Miami is located in northeast Oklahoma near the Missouri and Kansas state lines on the banks of the Grand (Neosho) River and is the county seat of Ottawa County. It lies a few miles west of Interstate 44 and Route 66 along U.S. Highway 59.
The area is within easy driving distance of several state parks including Spring River Canoe Trails State Park, Twin Bridges State Park, Bernice State Park and Honey Creek State Park. The Spring River is located to the east and flows south joining the Grand Neosho in helping to form the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees near Grove. Other diversions include golf resorts, scuba diving, fishing and rafting.
A "must see" is the Coleman Theatre, an ornate Spanish Mission-style structure built in 1929. The Dobson Museum displays over 5,000 First Nation artifacts and historical items.
If one is interested in post-high school education, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College provides a community college-level learning opportunity.
