More than 100 lakes are contained in the interior of what is believed to be the world's largest freshwater island. One of them, Lake Manitou, is considered to be the largest lake within a lake, and several more islands are located within its shores. The island is accessible by ferry from
Tobermory or from
Espanola by Highway 6. There are five indian reservations on the island. Visitors can enjoy hiking, bicycling, fishing, camping, boating, and scuba diving.
