Point Pelee is the southernmost mainland point in Canada. The park is one of Canada's smallest, but also one of it's most popular summer resorts. Comprised of sand dunes, marshland, and forested areas, the park is a natural sanctuary for migratory birds. Monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico from Point Pelee in late August. The marshland is home to many small water animals like mink and muskrat, and visitors can view the marsh from a boardwalk trail. Nature trails are open year round. Canoes and bicycles can be rented from April through October. The Visitors' Centre offers slide shows and films on Point Pelee's natural history. Also available are maps, pictures, and interpretive programs.
