Cove is located in
Union County, 17 miles east of
La Grande along Highway 237. It lies at the foot of Mt. Fanny on the eastern edge of the lush
Grande Ronde Valley. This picturesque community is situated in a natural pocket where Mill Creek flows from the
Wallowa Mountains.
Recreation highlights include Cove Hot Springs pool, which operates during the summer, and Moss Springs USFS Campground and trailhead into the Eagle Creek Wilderness. One of the most popular photo opportunities in Union County is Cove's beautiful Ascension Chapel. Built in 1869, the little church features a stained glass window that was brought "around the Horn." Other attractions in the area include: Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, Catherine Creek State Park, Hilgard Junction State Park, Red Bridge State Park, Umatilla National Forest, Wallowa-Whitman National Forest and Cove Hot Springs Pool.
