Named for former Oregon Governor and U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield, the center is part of Oregon State University and home to researchers studying the ocean and estuaries. The visitor center offers informative exhibits, intriguing marine animals, and a touch tank. Admission is by donation. Nearby, the Port of Newport operates a public marina and RV park with ample parking.
