A fairly short highway, (56 Miles), extending from
Eugene to
Highway 97 in
Lane County and
Klamath County. This highway passes through, Crale,
Dexter, Heather,
Lowell, McCredie Springs, Minnow,
Oakridge, Odell Lake, Pryor, (Westfir, near
Oakridge) and Wicopee.
Passing through the Willamette National Forest and Deschutes National Forest. While the ends of this road may be fairly flat and straight, the greater middle section is quite lush as the road climbs to the Willamette Pass. The road passes next to or near several bodies of water. Dexter, Falls Creek and Hill Creek Reservoirs on the western half, and Odell Lake and Crescent Lake on the eastern half.
There are service roads intersecting the highway that allow the more adventurous traveler to discover Oregon off the beaten tracks. Summer only roads allow access to wilderness areas and remote camping to both north and south of the highway. Crater Lake National Park is accessible on these roads.
Editors Note: For travelers leaving the highway, check with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service - Oregon ranger station for road and safety conditions before embarking into the nether regions of these forests...
