One of the two cross-Oregon Interstates, the other being <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/i/i5.htm">Interstate 5</a> from the Columbia River to the California border, Interstate 84 follows closely on the path of the old US 30. It heads east from <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/p/portland.htm">Portland</a> through the <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/c/colgorge.htm">Columbia River Gorge Nat'l Scenic Area</a> and follows the Columbia River through <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/h/hoodrive.htm">Hood River</a> and <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/t/thedalle.htm">The Dalles</a>, before heading southeast along the path of the old <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/o/oregontr.htm">Oregon Trail</a>.<P>Cutting across the northeast corner of the state, it goes through <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/p/pendleto.htm">Pendleton</a>, <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/l/lagrande.htm">La Grande</a> and <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/b/bakercit.htm">Baker City</a> before reaching and crossing the Idaho border at <a href="http://www.ohwy.com/or/o/ontario.htm">Ontario</a>.<P>Within Portland, Interstate 84 is also known as the Banfield Expressway.<P>          <P>
