The byway, which primarily follows Forest Service Road 33, is an 82.5 mile route from Gold Beach through the
Siskiyou National Forest to Hwy 42. Except for a seven-mile section of road near Agness, the byway is a two-lane, paved roadway.
A drive along the byway take the visitor past old-growth Douglas fir, Port Orford cedar and other coastal flora, a narrow Coquille River canyon guarded by high cliffs, and occasional waterfalls.
A guide to the drive is available through the Powers visitor center, ranger districts at Powers and Gold Beach, and various information centers along the route.
