Situated on
Highway 30 northwest of Portland, Scappoose is part of
Columbia County. The City of Scappoose is the home to some 5,200 people and lies between the
Columbia River and mountainous hillsides of the
Coast Range Mountains.
The Indian name means "gravelly plain," and the post office here dates back to 1871.
Aside from agricultural related operations, Scappoose’s principal private employer is the West Coast Shoe Company, a family owned and internationally renowned shoe & boot manufacturing enterprise.
Scappoose is part of the Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-WA metro area.
