The first pioneers came to the banks of the Silver Creek, following timber and water power, in the 1800s. Silverton was incorporated in 1885. Today, the success of the Oregon Garden of a partnership between the Garden, a private enterprise attracting tourists to botanical displays, and the City of Silverton. The historic downtown district and the beautiful mansions perched on the hills surrounding downtown bring thousands of visitors to the city. Many of the stately homes have become bed and breakfast establishments, where visitors can stoll the beautiful historic distric.
