Wood Village is located in eastern Multnomah County, north of Gresham and west of Troutdale along Interstate 84. The city was incorporated in 1951. It is named after Lester Wood, a real estate developer responsible for the idea of creating a subdivision here.

Wood Village is part of the Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-WA metro area.
