The World Forestry Center is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to promote the establishment, protection, and management of forest resources through research, education, and dissemination of forestry information. The center was created as the Western Forestry Center in 1971, replacing the original 1905 Forest Parthenon, which was destroyed by fire in 1964.
Examples of the ongoing work of the Center include:
- Informing elected officials, government agencies, and corporations about forest resources worldwide
- "Old Growth Forests: Treasure in Transition", an exhibit viewed by nearly three million people
- Co-sponsoring and hosting conferences and seminars
- Involvement with community understanding of forest values.
