The Brown family acquired its first land in the Browntown area about 1760, after having been in South Carolina for some time. The diligence of this family resulted in a very successful agrarian enterprise. So typical of Southern antebellum homes, the Brown-Burrows house, on whose site the museum is situated, is a small farmstead restored for your viewing pleasure. Also on the site are a smoke house, an outhouse, old-fashioned corn crib, a real cotton gin and a lot of other things sure to bring forth a ton of questions. The museum is located on South Carolina Highway 261, ten miles east of Lake City. The museum is open on the weekends and by appointment.
