South Dakota State University is located in
Brookings, Brookings County. Founded in 1881, this is a public land-grant institution offering undergraduate programs in agriculture and biological sciences, arts and science, engineering, family and consumer sciences, nursing, pharmacy, education and counseling and general registration. There are eight undergraduate schools and one graduate school. The 260 acre campus is in a rural area 50 miles north of
Sioux Falls and 200 miles west of Minneapolis. Including residence halls, there are 80 buildings.
Fraternities, sororities and over 200 clubs and organizations are on campus. Tours of the campus are available through the admissions office.
