The Hermitage

Search Nashville Tennessee

In 1804 Andrew Jackson purchased this 625-acre property, which included a complex of log houses. The Hermitage mansion was built in 1821 in the Federal style but was partially burned in 1834 during Jackson's second term as President. Remodeling was completed 2 years later in the Greek Revival style.

The completely restored mansion features many of the original furnishings and fixtures, including nearly all of President and Mrs. Jackson's personal effects.

He and his wife, Rachel, are buried in a tomb in the back of the garden.
