Fort McKavett State Historical Park |
Originally called Camp San Saba, because it overlooks the headwaters of the San Saba River Valley, Fort McKavett was established in 1852 to protect frontier settlers and travelers on the Upper El Paso Road. After periods of use and disuse, the fort was finally abandoned in1883.
Attractions at the park include natural springs, over 25 restored historical buildings including ruins, some roofed and some refurnished.
