Longhorn Cavern State Park |
The cave was first formed when ground levels of water began to drop. As this downward movement continued, the water began to dissolve the limestone. Eventually, great underground stream beds were cut out of solid rock. Because of this, Longhorn Cavern is of exceptional interest on a world scale. The cavern has been used for shelter since prehistoric times.
The park is south of Burnet in Burnet County. Longhorn Cavern is near four lakes and communities that offer excellent opportunities for camping, fishing, and hunting.
