It is named for Benjamin Rush Milam, hero of the Battle of San Antonio in late 1835. The restored county jail, built around 1895, houses the Milam County Historical Museum. The jail comes complete with cells, shackles, and a gallows tower. Other exhibits cover pioneer farm and ranch equipment, rustic household furnishings, and the spartan "fashions" of the frontier.
