The park is located in Harris County, 20 miles east of downtown Houston. The are three components to the complex. - San Jacinto Monument - a 570-foot tribute to the Texans who defeated Mexican General Santa Ana in 1836 and won Texas Independence from Mexico
- San Jacinto Battleground - the actual site of the decisive 18-minute battle
- The Battleship Texas - Patterned after the British battleship Dreadnought, Texas fought in both world wars. In 1948, it became a battleship memorial museum.
