Located in Eastern Utah, the byway extends along Hwy 191 from Vernal to the Wyoming border, and from the junction of Hwy 191/144 to Manila. The theme of this drive is Wildlife through the Ages; the 82-mile road is highlighted by wildlife observation sites throughout the
Ashley National Forest and takes in the eastern flank of the Uinta Mountains. Featured on the trail is the billion-year-old exposed core of the Uintas, near Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Numerous opportunities for side trips are available; interpretive signs along the drive explain the evolution of geology and wildlife in this historic area. This drive has also been recognized as a National Scenic Byway.
