Grand Gulch Primitive Area

The Grand Gulch Primitive Area features hundreds of ancient cliff dwellings within a rugged area that is accessible only by horseback and hiking trails. The Anasazi ("Ancient Ones") flourished in Grand Gulch between 700 and 2,000 years ago. You will see dwellings, pottery, tools, and art work. A BLM permit is required prior to entry. Limit total group size to no more than 12 people. Located south of Natural Bridges National Monument and north of the San Juan River, entrance is 20 miles south of the junction of Hwy 261 & Hwy 95.
