Lake Powell |
Lake Powell was created by the Corps of Engineers when the Colorado River was dammed up in Glen Canyon. The lake offers 2,000 miles of shoreline and hundreds of red rock canyons and inlets for exploration. Visitors will find an effect known as "desert varnish" in this area, created by the unique combination of the water and sandstone cliffs streaked with mineral deposits. Water sports and recreation are prevalent here, and six marinas service this year-round boating destination. Speed boats, houseboats, and other watercraft rentals are available at the lake, as well as fine dining, shopping and upscale accommodations. The Lake Powell Ferry provides regular service between the Bullfrog and Halls Crossing marinas, and offers the opportunity for visitors to experience the lake, as well as a scenic drive.
