Located in the Colorado Plateau area of Utah, the route follows Hwy 12 from the junction with Hwy 89, to Torrey. Visitors will enjoy the drive along 122 miles of some of the most varied scenery in the state; beginning at the Red Canyon, the route travels through the northern portion of Bryce Canyon National Park and the
Dixie National Forest. The ensuing climb over Boulder Mountain offers outstanding views of mountain ranges and surrounding valleys. The end of the drive is Torrey, just outside Capitol Reef National Park, where Hwy 12 connects with Hwy 24, another scenic byway running through the park to Hanksville.
