Berkeley Plantation

The 1726 James River plantation is the birthplace of both Benjamin Harrison, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and William Henry Harrison, ninth president. General George McClellan used Berkeley as a Civil War headquarters, and General Daniel Butterfield composed 'Taps' here. The restored riverfront mansion has antique furnishings and terraced boxwood gardens on the grounds. Open daily 9am-5pm; closed Christmas Day.
