Located in historic downtown, the museum presents changing exhibits from its extensive collections to tell the story of
Richmond and those who shaped the city. The collections include decorative and industrial arts, paintings and prints; complementing these are more than half a million photographs of the city as well as extensive manuscript and book collections. The Wickham House, built by
Richmond's then-wealthiest citizen, is connected to the museum and interprets the lives of its 31 residents; the house and its collections were bequeathed to the city in 1892 by Mann S Valentine. Guided tours are offered.
