Castleton is located in Rutland County near the New York state line. Castleton is the home of Castleton State College - the oldest college in Vermont, founded in 1787. Visitors should check out Hubbardton Battlefield, the site of an historic battle during the Revolutionary War. The battlefield offers breathtaking views of the Green Mountains. Lake Bomoseen, the second largest lake in the stte, offers many recreational opportunities, including boating, swimming, fishing, and hiking.
