Founded in 1787, Castleton State College is the oldest institution of higher learning in Vermont, comprising 22 buildings on 160 acres. It is part of the
Vermont State College System, with an enrollment of 1,400 full-time undergraduate students. The ratio of students to faculty is 13/1. Most are Vermont residents.
More than 30 academic programs are offered, including liberal arts, teacher preparation and professional studies. The most popular majors are business and social sciences. Graduate programs include education and forensic psychology.
The library contains 130,000 volumes. The college also boasts 200 student-use computers, its own radio station and TV studio. Forty student clubs and organizations and 12 varsity sports round out the life at Castleton State.
