Straddling the international border, the opera house's stage is on Canadian soil. The building was donated to the residents of Derby Line and Rock Island and Stanstead, Quebec, by Martha Stewart Haskell and her son, Horace, in memory of Carlos Haskell, husband and father. Under the original charter, profits from opera house performances were earmarked for support of the library.
The library on the premises is free.
