Old Round Church

National Historic Landmark

Search Richmond Vermont

The Round Church is as old as Richmond and was built as a community church for Richmond's five Protestant congregations. The town sold pews to the parishioners to raise the money for construction. William Rhoades acted as master builder. This church building's roundness is an illusion since it is a 16-sided polygon in actual shape. It was erected in 1813, then refurbished and renovated in 1981, and is still used for events such as concerts, weddings and public gatherings.
