Richmond is located in Chittenden County, between Williston and Jonesville in the western foothills of the Green Mountains. The Winooski River bisects the town of 4,090 residents, as does Interstate 89, the New England Central Railway and U.S. Route 2. Camel's Hump State Park is nearby.
The town was organized in 1795 and is recognized as home to the Old Round Church, a 16-sided edifice built in 1813, considered to be among one of the first community churches in the country. The church is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It's been said that it was built round so there would be "no corners for Satan to hide in."
Richmond is part of the Burlington, Vermont metro area.
