The park, 12 miles north of Shelton on Hwy 101, served as a gathering place for the Skokomish and Twanoh Indian Tribes for their festivals and gift-giving ceremonies or 'Potlatches', thereby giving the park its name.
The park attracts many visitors for its beautiful views, kite flying, and clam digging opportunities. Also popular is windsurfing, scuba diving, picnicking, fishing, and boating. Interpretive programs are also offered.
The Washington State Parks system includes more than 125 developed parks and covers about a quarter million acres.
