Washington State Ferries

Operated by the State of Washington to connect the east and west sides of Puget Sound as well as many islands, the Washington State Ferry system is the largest ferry system in the United States and is both an essential part of the region's economy and a highlight of many vacations.

The southernmost route connects Point Defiance (Tacoma) to Vashon Island. Cross-sound routes include Fauntleroy (south Seattle)-Vashon-Southworth, Seattle-Bremerton, Seattle-Bainbridge Island, and Edmonds-Kingston.

Whidbey Island is connected by ferry with Port Townsend. Travelers can then take a ferry from Clinton to Mukilteo or take Highway 20 to the mainland.

Anacortes is the western terminus of the route to Victoria BC with San Juan Islands connections at Lopez Island, Shaw, Friday Harbor and Orcas.
