Although this 55 acre fish hatchery is located inside
Lincoln County Wyoming, (Near
Auburn ), it is also inside
Caribou National Forest in Idaho. Construction of most of the facility, named "Western Wyoming Fish Hatchery", was finished in 1942.
The majority of the fish are reared in circular raceways. This fish hatchery was the first to use this; this form of fish rearing increases the growth rates of fish and uses less water. The success of this first one led to construction of many more in Wyoming.
Species of fish reared here are Kokanee, Lake Trout, Snake River Cutthroat, brood stock, and Splake. Trout fishing near the hatchery is available at each Salt River Access Area on Hwy 89.
